Do I need to beef up the rear?

Do I need to beef up the rear?
Hey all,
Well, got the car down to the shop, and apparently the pinion bearings are going.
So I have two options;
Either replace them, for about 500 and change, including labor.
Or do a Cobra posi and new axles and all of that too, for around 1250.
Now; my car makes 420 to the rear. I've never taken it to the track and never will. I am probably going to put a set of Nittos on there in the nearer future. The guy from the garage said just go with the basic setup- he said he's never seen a car on the street break axles or anything, and as long as it isn't a track car dumping the clutch at 5k, I should be just fine. What do you all think?
Thanks,
LA

RE: Do I need to beef up the rear?
i would put an eaton posi diff, w/ mosler 31 spline axles, and a TA diff cover to keep everything together - Eaton diff $500, $280 for mosler axles, and $200 for TA diff cover, basically a grand in parts and then your labor. Depending on labor cost I would rather spend the extra $500 today and do it right the first time around. You won't have to worry about it again.
This is what I will be doing at somepoint myself down the road.
