Sooo.. I bought a lemon.
I realized it back in October when the engine blew up. I have dumped all of my money working 2 jobs just to get this car running right again.
List of things I bought since I got the car in August 2007:
Remanufactured FORD motor (3 year warranty) ($5,500 in total)
New Eagle F1 all season tires
Tie Rods (inner and outer)
Fuel pump
Brake pads and rotors all around
Steering rack bushings
Struts (both sides) the others were leaking fluid
The mechanic who put in the motor said that the oil pan gasket had been broken into and the guy before me tried fixing the knock and only silenced it for about a week (I drove it for a week and it was fine)
What can I do? Can I get some kind of money out of this guy if I contact a lawyer and have the lawyer send him a promise to appear if he doesnt cough up money for AT LEAST the motor? The motor blew 1 month after I bought the car...

RE: Sooo.. I bought a lemon.
laws are different for this in each state (ie lemon law in ohio) and i know its hard from and individual if the person was selling the car "as is" .but for the intial cost if any then talking to a lawyer couldnt hurt at all. good luck and keep us posted.

Wow that sucks. The motor is the only thing that sucks though, everything else that failed is standard wear and tear. Struts, tires, brakes and boots fail quite often. It's not really a lemon; Just have fun with your new engine shoulda dropped some cams in it or something while you were at it, that woulda made you happy hehe.
IIRC, theres no warranty between private sellers, and your SOL if you buy a car and it breaks on you.
However, your mechanic has his own professional opinion, and he says that it looks like a scam, so you may have a case afterall.
I'd call a lawyer and try to intimidate the guy and go all the way to court if he doesn't pay up and see what happens

RE: Sooo.. I bought a lemon.
that is true about the whole lemon thing. has to be new from the dealership, same issue and multiple attempts to correct the issue. However, also as mentioned above, if you mechanic/ mechanics look it over and see it as a possible scam then a lawyer is definitely a good investment.
