Disconnecting GT Muffler
i disconnected one muffler from my 01 GT and it sounds excellent but i just wanted to know does it lose power?

RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
i just did tht on my 98 and its got more power but idk about the 99-04 and it does sound mean
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
ya it sounds nasty im just wondering if it loses power cuz idk it kinda feels slower but i think its just the noise haha
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
o ya it sounds like ur going faster maybe its because you only did one

RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
I had exhaust cutouts on my 2000 GT.. meaning that the mufflers were still on and the entire exhaust was intact.. but there was a flanged pipe where the 2nd set of Catalytic converters were supposed to be so all the exhaust was going through 1 set of cats, then blowing out the side. The car was too torquey.. and I put magnaflow cats in place of the exhaust dumps.
I don't know how similar the no-mufflers deal would be.. but the way I see it.. if you got your pipes connected and there is a steady flow out the back.. no mufflers really makes no difference. The only reason for mufflers is to muffled the sound obviousely. You have backpressure, and a lot of it. WhenI had the exhaust dumps, THAT was harmful andsounded ridiculous.. no backpressure there. That's my 2 cents. |
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
you will lose low end torque if you remove the catback not to mention interior resonance would be super annoying.
this thread kind of gives me an idea of what ox was talking about.:eek::eek: |
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
i only disconncted one muffler will that still make me lose low end torque
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
I GAINED low end torque with those exhaust dumps.
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
lol okay so once again since ive disconnected one muffler will it lose power? haha
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
Yes, you will lose high end horsepower. You will gain about 50% more low end Torque as compared to the high end horsepower lost's figure, however. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you, that's what happens. I know exhaust.. I had a lot of problems with mine. Sorry for beating around the bush, I was at work.. got distracted.

RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
okay so in your opinion is it a good thing to do...and the power loss is not that significant right?

RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
Yes you will lose low end torque, you dont really LOSE power, you adjust your torque.
I would also like the see some proof in detail from expert Evenexchange. Hope you have some dyno sheets, because your wrong on this one pal. |
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
I dont need proof and wasn't looking for critics.
Why do track cars run open headers? I dont have time for detail, i'll just let you figure that one out by yourself... I'm sure your capable. [sm=closed.gif] |
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
 Ok, well I do have experience with the subject, I've had my exhaust all kinds of different ways. YOU WILL LOSE LOW END TORQUE. PERIOD.
I dont really care if your not looking for critics, with your little comment "Dont listen to what everyone else tells you, I know exhaust" I would assume that you would have at least some experience with the topic and be able to prove yourself at least a little bit. Obviously you dont. I forgot that ALL track cars run open headers. In fact there are quite a few that DONT. Depending on what class the car is in, it might be a rule that you have to run exhaust. I find it really hard to believe that your an exhaust EXPERT but yet you start a thread asking when to check your coolant, along with the other pointless threads that you have posted. |

RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
haha i wasnt trying to start a war...but if it does loose low end torque is it a noticable difference?
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
You don't need backpressure, the velocity is the important thing. I highly doubt you lost or gained anything from removing the muffler(s).
|
RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler
okay cool so im fine because the car sounds awseome and the best part is ITS FREE![8D]
