Default Ugly Squeal + New Symptom

As I've said, there is an ugly squeal coming from what seems like the lower passenger side of the engine compartment.

It's not there w/o the belt hooked up, and it gets louder as the rpms increase.

Today on the way home today I discovered that I have no air conditioning. Also, the piece that is supposed to spin when you turn the A/C does not spin at all. (the round piece inside where the belt runs and has 3 round things on it)

Is this related? Is the squeal the compressor, and since it is bad that's why I have no A/C?

sounds like the a/c compressor is locked up.

+1 you probably caused damage to it when you orginally routed the belt incorrectly

If you replace the compressor you also need to replace the dryer and orfice tube it will run you about $250-$300 for parts.

Yea, I see that I have to replace the accumulator/drier in addition to the compressor.

250-300 in parts. I don't want to think about how much labor would be, so I imagine I'll do it myself.

Anyone done this before? How difficult is it/long might it take?

*How about an A/C delete. Cost/difficulty/reasonable? I don't use my A/C very often at all, so is this a viable option?*

wouldnt hurt, you can pick up a bypass pulley from autozone or advanced for 30-40 bucks

Care to elaborate?

I don't know JACK about cooling/heating/air conditioning systems, especially in vehicles.

Would this just involve having the system discharged, and then removing the compressor and replacing that pulley with a new pulley that is not attached to anything?

If I did this, could I repair the system later on at some date?

Any reason NOT to do this OTHER THAN not having an air conditioning system?

I don't know if Auto zone will have the bracket that would hold the pulley but basically you can just buy a bracket a pulley to replace the compressor. Then when you decided you want the AC back all you have to do is replace the delete pulley with the new compressor.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:
