Default 99+ to 96 PI head swap

Ok guys I ordered the PI heads today. Got them off a guy for 222.50 minus the shipping so I still need to add that in when he tells me how much that is. This project is going to take me a few months to piece together my stuff. I'm going on a scavenger hunt: heads (which i ordered now), cam, intake, and gears. I'll install them all at once hopefully by the end of January. Gonna get some xmas / bday (jan 28) help hehe.

Default 99+ to 96 PI head swap

I got them from a guy on ebay, who got new heads for his car. They are PI heads, so they didnt come off a 99+ but they are made for the swap ya know, but he had them on his stang. He replaced them with ported ones he had and said he gained a lot of hp bygetting ported ones.Anyways 306 shipped was the price. He suggested to me that I get them ported if I have the money. What do you guys think of this? They are already PI would you spend the extra cash and send them off to be ported? If so, anyone got prices on porting or places? I'm talking to another guy about a PI cam im trying to get from him. He said he saw good gains with it. <edited><editID>mabguru</editID><editDate>37923.596099537</editDate></edited>

If you have the money, do it. It's worth the extra gain, because it means more airflow and that will enhance future mods. Make sure whoever does it has experience porting 4.6 heads if you want the best results. That may mean you have to ship them somewhere, but it depends on the quality of job you want done, as opposed to a local shop. </P>

$306 is a killer deal on heads, good job!</P><edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37923.5919444444</editDate></edited>

Here's the difference in both intakes. The PI one on the bottom had some port work to match my heads. I got my head work done at Fox Lake. I got the Stage II CNC porting with multi-angled valve job, ModMax stainless steel valves, hi-rev springs, titanium retainers, andtriple groove locks. Cams, portmatched plastic intake manifold for $3084.00. That includes tax and shipping.</P>

They claim 100HP increase with this setup. I won't know for sure since my block is in the machine shop getting forged internals. It's my winter project this year. </P>

If you're planning on a blower later on go ahead and get blower cams now. You won't get the max power out of your stang with these NA but it will save you money and the trouble of putting them in later on.</P><edited><editID>Snydaleid</editID><editDate>37926.9776851852</editDate></edited>

I forgot to add that if you want to get a blower then you'll have to get forged internals to lower the compression. You'll be at 10.5:1 after the swap and a blower will be out of the question until you do this.

Anyways I got my PI cams on the way too guys should be coming very soon within the next few days. I got the PI cams shipped for $141 and some change. Will keep you all posted on the project.

Fox-Lake is a little pricey but theresults areoutstanding. There are other places out there of course. One to look at is www.Modularfordpowerhouse.com Tim offers 3 different stages of port work. www.steenracing.com is another one I've heard greatthingsfrom.I've heard horror stories about DTA. I believe http://www.livernoismotorsports.comports heads too. Whichever you choose keep us posted. I'd like to know how yours turns out. I can't wait to get mine put back together. <IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> </P>

I got my cams in yesterday. They are lovely shed weights....:/ Holding down the shed next hurricane comes through till I can get them installed. I'm going to send my heads off next to get ported and polished from a guy my supra friend knows in the next town. All he does is porting, but I have yet to talk to him and get a price or time frame. Now I have to look for gears and the upper intake. On gears I'll prolly just go with 3.73's because I commute a lot to college 3 days a week. 30 min interstate ride. I'll keep you guys posted on whatever happens next.

Which cams did you end up getting? Are you replacing your valve springs?
