tuner question need opinions
this is what the seller wrote
This is the chip tuner for Ford Mustangs/Cobras 1996-2006. I bought this for my 2006 Mustang V6 and it worked perfectly. But I had to get rid of the Mustang in Jan. so I do not need this any longer. I set the Mustang back to default before I traded it in. As this tuner will only work for one vehicle at a time. It is in the original box with ALL original material. Tuner, USB cord, CD used to install diagnostic software to a laptop or PC, and instruction manual. Locals only please. Photos upon request.
i have an 01 gt is it worth buying

RE: tuner question need opinions
here is what i think:
should you buy it? nope...
why? heres why...even tho he returned the stock tune back on his car....the tuner was programmed to work with his vehicle and not yours. what i mean by that, is this...when you order a tuner, one of the things the company asks you for is your cars computer code. the code consists of a letter and 2 or 3 numbers...you can find the code on your cars ecu, which is located under the passanger side kick panel. the tuner that he has was programmed with his cars computer code and not yours.
the ONLY way i would buy a used tuner is if i got the oppurtunity to plug the tuner into my car 1st...and make sure it was able to load the tune. i have read way too many horror stories on here from people purchasing used tuners.

RE: tuner question need opinions
+1, If it was working on a 2006 V6 then it will have to be reprogrammed for your '01 GT. I don't know what is involved (in time, hassle, and $$) in getting that done however I suspect it will be somewhere near as much as the difference between $230 and a new one...
