I have an auto and i love it. if you went 4:10s i would also upgrade to a kevlar overdrive band if you are working on your transmission, because it wont be long until you pop ur OD band.

i would but its a gay auto...im goin to put 4.10 gears in...would it be good to buy a stall converter, valve body, and maybe a b&m hammer shifter? its only got got 49000 miles on it and my stepdad sold it to me for a really good price

To put gears, a stall, and valve body in for $1000 or less will be pretty hard unless you can install most if not all parts by yourself? It is costing me about $2000 for the 3 mod set up. Gears, torque converter, and valvebody with custom tune.
Gears $200...Bearing install Kit $75...Actual gear install was $400 for me...kinda high but that is what the going price is in my area.
Torque Converter...$800...custom built...can probably find cheaper but anything cheaper than $500 probably won't last as long as you would like? The install in my area to drop the transmission and put in the new converter would run me $250...but I am going to be doing that myself.
Valve body custom built for $150...can do all the modifying yourself...read "j-mod"...but I bought an extra one already built up...just have to put it in.
SCT Tuner $350...I have theDiablo but the guy who I am buying this stuff off of hates the Diablo and only sends custom tunes for the SCT
So as you can see those 3 mods at bare bone minimum is going to cost you alittle over a $1000 give or take a few hundredif you can do all the installing. I myself am going to have to pay a little more because I don't have the SCT Tuner. But I also had to pay to get the gears installed and I have not even added in the cost of over 14 quarts of transmission fluid which I will get the best(synthetic) another $75 dollars or so and also paid $150 for a transmission cooler because you got to have that for a high stall application that I am using such as myself.

It's not a cheap when you start adding more and more things...by all means...but you also don't have to do that all at once either. I have the 4.30 gears in now and love them and probably would most likely be happy with just the gears...but you do need a tune though...the shifting is way off from stock. The gears really make the car take off. But IMPO I need the extra leverage that us auto guys can't get that manuals can and that is to be able to leave off the line at 3000rpms+. My suspension might not like it...read "spiiiiiiiinnnnnggg" but I can always play around with the best launch rpm that my tires or current suspension set-up will take? I can always upgrade to drag radials later and modifying the suspension will be in-order too but for now I want to be able to have that brute force off the line...and the stall will allow me to accomplish that!
