Default reducing travel of clutch

on my 96 gt, i find that the clutch travel is just too much for me to handle (my knee will come up past the steering wheel). j/w how I can somehow reduce the travel length to a distance of only like 4 inches - the travel on it is retarded.. the first 4 inches matter, then the rest of the 6 inches means nothing - u just have to push all the way down to switch gears.

this is also my first manual car - so im clueless about these things
