Default Sigh.. caliper cease.

Today I was driving to a friends house when I got in his driveway and I noticed that the front right fender was smoking like crazy. Yup, my caliper ceased. We jacked it up and spun the tire.. slight scraping. Is there any way to fix the caliper and if not, what do you suggest? Upgrade? Are there 4 piston kits available for my car? It is a 2000 GT 5 speed.

I was thinking about going with the Mach 1 and cobra front brake caliper kits that come with the red powdercoat finish... and the pony logo in the front but its like 430 bucks.. wtf.. I went to autozone and they said that I can either get just the standard caliper which is like 70 bucks or I can get the performance one that coems powdercoated red.. no pony logo or anything. But the thing is, if I get that then I have to get another one for the other side... Because the other one I have is spray painted.. Suggestions?

It may not be siezed. Try opening the bleeder valve. If this frees up the wheel ,more then likely the rubber brake line is bad and not your caliper.

Really? I'm kinda a noob at this. So what.. jack it up.. open the bleeder valve.. pin the brake to the fllor then have a buddy close it up, refill the fluid and try again?

What should I expect to see?

Jack the car up and make sure the wheel is still stuck as if the brakes are still aplied even though your not steping on the pedal. Then all you have to do is open the bleeder and see if this frees the wheel. If it does look into replacing the rubber line that goes to the caliper.
Note!!! do not press on the brake pedal when you open the bleeder. All your trying to do is release the pressure in the caliper If that is your problem.

If you do need to get new calipers I would suggest not getting them from AutoZone. Don't trust anything you buy from them. Remember everything they have is rebuilt or refurbished or just crap. Always remember you get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't always cheaper in the long run.

Wait.. when you bleed the brakes.. you need to floor the brake pedal completely, then close the bleeder valve..

If you looking to do this on the cheap, you can remove the caliper from the car yourself.
Pop the pistons out of the caliper using brake pedal pressure.
Clean the inside of the bores with 400grit wet or dry sandpaper.
Put everything back together and bleed the brakes.
It would help to change th brake fluid at this time since the reason for the sticking caliper is probably the water in your brake fluid. If it's brown, change it.
