Default how to tell a motor

I have a 97 Motor that i pulled out of a GT. I thought all GT's were Single cam .. i pulled the vavle covers and theres two cams my first thought was its a cobra motor because i didnt think they made a dohc in 97 besides the gt. Can anyone help me ?

If there are 4 Cams (2 on each head) yes it's a DOHC motor. Take a pic and we will be able to tell you if it's a Cobra or Mark8 motor

thats the problem i took the motor apart im down to bare block. Because the pistons were shot. but there was a cam on each side. there was only 2

the gt motors are single over head cam motors. That means there is one cam per head. I think you are thinking of cam in block motors where there are only one cam for everything.

yeah SOHC still has 2 cams but its single on each side duel has 2 on each side. 4 total.

yup you have a regular GT motor, that would be awesome to end up ripping apart a motor from a GT, finding out it had a cobra motor in it hah

yeah lol single cam = pushrod like the 302 5.0s in the middle of the motor, dohc = dual overhead cam(2 per head) sohc= 1 per head w00t. now you know.
