Default 2000 Mustang GT... 5W-30 or 5W-20?

I am changing the oil for the first time in my car and I need to know whether to run 5W-30 or 5W-20! I read in the booklet that came with the car and it said that 4.6L Mustang takes 5W-30.. but the cap says 5W-20. Any clue? Also, what brand do you guys run?

My booklet and Cap say 5W-20 and I have an 02'. I use Castrol GTX Full Syn. If you have over 70,000 miles it won't hurt you if you decide to use 5W-30 though. But I stick with 5W-20

I personally used 10W-30 before i had the motor rebuild..

but i'd go with a higher weight depending upon the milage your car has... or just some "high milage" oil... its all good...

if all else fails... check your owners manual.. its your friend

Yeah.. the motor is brand new. So you would think 5W-30... But idk.. the owners manual says 5W-30, and so does the Haynes manual. The only thing that says 5W-20 is the cap.

It's just so odd how the oil cap says 5W-20...

high milage oil isa joke, its just a heavier oil for more price

if you car is under warrenty its 520, otherwise id just use 530 IMO

Well, my car is under a 3 year warranty. If I use 5W-30 and something blows up for whatever reason, they can't snag me, its in the freakin book.

uhhh my manual says 5w20 and so does my cap...

to be honest with you bud, no matter the milage, switching to 5w30 aint gonna hurt. Its whether or not its synthetic or not that makes the biggest difference.

If you choose togo to 5w30 though, stay with it...
