Default Traction

Coming from the land of AWD, RWD is a new thing for me..

I have a 03 Mustang GT with minor bolt ons, I feel like I have alot more power then what I can get to the ground. I spin all through first and second on a hard launch...

Im running stock/rim tire... Maybe its time to look into bigger wider tires? What am I looking at for a Set of new tires/rims? 1500-2000$?

Thanks Boys

275's come to mind. depending on how much driving you do i would look into some drag radials.

Depends how big of a tire you want on how big of a wheel.

The difference in tire prices from 17" and 18" is a big jump.

I bought my 17" cobra Rs DD off ebay with 315 tires in back and 275 in front for a little over a grand.

Check americanmuscle.com - They have some damn good deals on replica wheel/tire packages and have a discount code that can be found on our forums by asking. I don't know what it is right off hand though.

Hope this helps!

yea i spin 1/2 through 2nd lol. if you can afford it just get some drag radials...or some 315's or 335's.

my bullitts with sumitomo's cost $899 at latemodelrestoration but sumitomo's suck for traction as you prolly already know

a wider tire wont hurt but if your spinning your street tires 1st and 2nd its time for some drag radials.nitto drag radials are good and so are bfg drag radials also have a pretty long thread life.and they both are very safe with dd in the rain.

Well, not to buck the accumulated wisdom shown by the previous posters, I'm going to say that if you're spinning so bad through 1st and 2nd on an essentially stock car with no power adders and stock gears... You need to work on your launch.

Coming from AWD, I could see you getting "bad habits" (or what is a bad habit in a Mustang) because in AWD you just rev it up and dump the clutch. That doesn't work so well in a Mustang unless you have slicks or at least some good, wide drag radials.

Just a thought. Don't take offense as none is intended.

315's on a 10.5" rim will fit nice in your wheel well, + they look good. I spin through 3rd with sumotomos. Its point less to race. When I start to boost up in 2nd the wheels break loose. So I obey the law.

I would worry about getting a stickier tire more than a wider tire. Nitto 555r's are probably the best for someone that drives on the street all the time. They will give you plenty of traction on the street.
