gas mileage with 3:73's?

RE: gas mileage with 3:73's?
all gears do is increase or decrease the revolutions of the rear wheels.. with 3.73's or a higher gear it feels like your gears are advanced.. 2nd now feels like first 3rd feels like 2nd 4th feels like 3rd etc.. And if your on the track they help you get to your max powerband quicker enabling you to achieve better times where it counts like if you have 2.73's it will take MUCH longer for you to get to where you want to be by that time you will be at the end of the track..
SO gas mileage isn't affected really unless you start driving like a freak.. (which is normal with new gears lol)
a 5spd usually gets like 1-2 mpg more than auto.. if that

If you stay out of the pedal a little, which is a BIG temptation with gears, you should be about the same mileage. If you hammer it a lot you can expect lower mileage for sure, not to mention replacing tires frequently. With more normal running you may even get better mileage around town because your engine is always in the "sweet spot" and doesn't have to ever lug to get up to speed. Kind of like driving with a big 4-barrel carb on an older muscle car. If you didn't open the back two barrels while accelerating (ya, right!), your mileage was good. If you constantly opened all the barrels with your secondaries wide, you could sometimes almost watch the gas gauge go down. For all around driving, I really wouldn't suggest using 4.10's or 4.30's. They are really more for the strip and make your first gear almost useless for everyday driving. With those gears you can literally start up from a stop in second gear if you had to. Everyone has their favorite ratio depending on their useage. Not doubt one thing is for sure....gears are a ton of fun!

then don't go 80. i do my fare share of highway traveling and 55-75. depending on the highway and the speed limit. never do more than 10 over. my gas mileage is still the same. hell, i've actually done more highway driving with my 3.73s than my stock gears so i love it when i go on the highway with my 3.73s.

I've lost no mileage, unless your always punching it on the highway. Your running almost 3000rpm at 75. I get about 25-26 mph on the highway and 14-15 having fun. I avg 280-300 miles on a tank of gas.
