I've read that the 01 cobras had a lot of issues with the internal "stops" not uh... stopping. Did they make them more reliable in 02+?

Well I'm not sure if the 01 cobras were like the 01 GT's but Ford switched trannys from the T-45 to the TR3650 midway between 01. The T-45 was said to have weak internal stops which made using these shift stops beneficial. The newer TR3650's like everyone had said has improved internal stops which make using the ones on aftermarket shifters not necessary.

The Cobra was also changed, in mid-2001 production (production dates* of around January of 2001+), to use the 3650 tranny. The T-45 did have weak internal stops and augmenting same with external stop bolts in the shifter was "a good thing®"========================* - Keep in mind that they started making 2001 "model year" cars in late May or June of 2000.
