cant beat everybody on the road..
Forget going crazy on the motor and getting all concerned with HP #'s. Put the $$ in a killer suspension set up, good set of sticky tires and a 100-125 shot of N2O. Then take the $6K of the $8K you were gonna spend and put it in the bank earning interest.

Not even close. Big HP #'s do not equate to a fast car.

Yep, kinda like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I was in high school...the car that left the longest black marks was the fastest. Then after you really start getting into what "fast" cars are, you learn that if you have all the HP in the world and can't get it to the ground...you're gonna lose every race

Darn, they had cars even back then??[8D]
Honestly the OP doesn't sound like he has enough experience with cars to be driving one with that much power by the way he is talking. But if you really want to go from a stock 230whp GT to over 200whp more right away, then go with what most of these guys are telling you. 8k won't really be enough though.

I have always liked drag racing. I tried a lil road racing way back, but never really got into it. My first drag race (with me driving) was the night I got my license in a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400. GOD, I LOVED that car.

I bought my very first car when I was 13 (1970 Mustang Coupe). Long story short...my dad's friend had the Firebird I mentioned earlier in this thread, that he bought brand new. I bought, fixed up, modded 4 different cars (starting with the 70 Mustang) as well as mowed yards to buy the Firebird on my 16th birthday.

Btw, the 1970 Mustang cost me $300.00, I put $200.00 and alot of blood, sweat and tears into it and sold it for $1200.00. Took that $$ and bought a 1978 Pontiac Formula and started the process again until I had enough $$ for the 68 Firebird.
