Default RE: My car will not start sometimes after being driven.

I have been working on this problem intensively and will list the problems that I find and the fix for it. I am checking on everything that has been posted and will hopefully find the cure. Like I said it does not do it everytime so I have to wait until it acts up again after I have performedeach of the suggestions. I don't want to try them all at once, because I will not know which one worked and I want to know that way the problem can help everyone that comes up with the Problem that I had and I can have it narrowed down to the right fix. I will keep everybody informed with the info that I find. And thanks to all for helping me with this. It is nice knowing that their are people to help out. And I will do the same.

Sounds electrical. I would check for spark when it is acting up. I think you have COP's so it would most likely be somehting that controls the coils.

Does it even try to fire in the least bit when it is acting up?

Back in the distributor days, there was what was called a control module, which controlled the spark to the plugs, they were prety notorious to die, and have the same symptom as you are having.

It sounds like a similar problem that I have run into before on other vehicles and just last week on our wrecker..For a few days whenever the wrecker was driven for a while,it would die and fail to start untill it cooled down. Turns out it was a cam sensor..

If you can get you car to a shop that has a scanner, while it fails to start, they can read the crank sensor and cam sensor to see if there is a signal. If either one of these sensors isnt getting a signal at the time when it fails to start, then there is your problem.

After your car has ran for 10 minutes or so try and start it by holding your foot to the floor. If this starts it continue reading:

I can't believe no one has told you your IAC is bad. Like someone said in an earlier post, when you put your foot to the floor you turn off the fuel. You don't have to have a code for the IAC to be bad. I would say it's either that OR your engine temp sensor is going bad. Buy the cheapest thing first. Your problem is only in one of the those two things.

Come back after you've fixed those and tell me I was right.
