Default Port and polish heads, pull motor?

Hey guys,

My buddy has an 03 Gt and he's done all the bolt ons he can. So he got a new intake manifold. Now he wants to port and polish the heads and pick up some new cams. The performance shop he normally goes to said it was required to pull the motor out to get the heads off and port and polish them. Is this true? Neither of us could understand why they couldn't just pop the heads off.

Thanks

You can pull the heads off without pulling the engine. I've done it at work many times on customer's cars.

Yes, you can pull the heads without pulling the engine.

But, if you plan on using ARP head bolts, you may have to pull the engine to reinstall the heads. If you plan on using new stock Torque To Yield (TTY) head bolts then you should be fine. Just make sure you use new head bolts, like I said the stock ones are TTY and can only be used once.

You can take the heads off while they are in the car.
