Default Just got a 97 GT. Need some mod advice

Well In new to the Mustang family and I am excited to get to work on my car. I just picked up a 97 GT and its in amazing shape. Its been garage kept and its only got 75k on it. Its lowered 1.5 inches, its got 2 single chamber flowmasters dumped. And it has a cold air intake. Im looking to park it for a while and mod it out. From reading the forum it looks like a PI swap is in order.... And I would like to put some headers on. Will I have to make changes to my current exhaust if i change the headers? I will post pics soon!

PI Swap and 4:10's should be your first mods. If your doing headers get LT's, don't even bother with shorties.

with long tube headers your going to need a new xpipe. But with the shortie you can run the one on the car. It sounds like you did your homework alittle. PI is a must also may want to look into having the heads ported and installing cams while there being installed. And I also agree with installing gears. Best bank for the buck. I would also suggest getting a shifter if the stock one is still in there. Makes alot more fun to drive.

Default PI Swap

I Plan to order the whole PI swap kit. Do you recommend installing yourself or should I have someone do it?

The pi swap is a pretty long undertaking. It is something that can be done in you garage. I did it and at the same time I put short tube headers on and I just attached them to the new cylinder heads and droped them in as one. You may or may not be able to do that with long tube. The other thing is that after you do the swap you need to tune for it. I did so with the sniper tuning software. Its really good, but alittle less just plug and play then other tuners, you kinda have to figure it out for yourself a bit. The other thing I wanted to do was some new cams while the heads were out of the car but do to lack of money... no deal on that. Good luck

With parts and labor, what does the PI swap actually cost. I know on Modular Depot's web site they have a LONG parts list of what is required.

A set of gears should be the first mod on anybody's list. I have 3.73s but still being a NPI car, I wish I would have gotten 4.10s. Either way though, they make it feel like a whole new car. Well worth the money.

i just did my mac lt's with a mac high flow catted midpipe and i already had a flowmaster catback. It sounds amazing and it definatly made a difference in power. I cant wait to get my 4.10's in. Its gonna be like a whole new car lol. It all depends how much money you have. I dont think i'm gonna do a pi swap cause i'd rather put a s/c on. And with the pi theres only so much boost you can push. But its all up to you theres so many options its driving me nuts.
