Default auto to manual swap. need help

i have a 99 mustang gt auto, so today I went to a junkyard with my friends and found a 99 mustang gt manual transmission. they dont know how many miles are on it but they said they will sell it to me for 600 dollars with every piece they can take out of the car including clutch and flywheel and all that. how do i know its not the worst investment in my life. how much would it be to take a mechanic there to inspect it. it seems like a weird thought to bring them there but if i can get my hands on a decent manual transmission for 600 bucks than i'm going to do it

please give thoughts and help

thanks

Im not sure what all is different in an automatic car, what is interchangeable, but I've ripped my cobra apart and can tell you what I found. Theres the clutch pedal, bracket, clutch quadrant, and clutch cable. Then theres the normal flywheel, clutch, t/o and pilot bearing, clutch fork and transmission. I know the splines are different on the output shaft so a new slip yoke will be required at the minimum.

Other members have done the swap and could prolly be a little more insightful. If it makes a difference, im collecting the pieces needed for this swap off my car right now to sell as a "kit".

the only problem with doing that is the speedo is mechanical on our 98's unlike the 99's. So i think your gonna be without a speedo and od if you use that tranny i could be wrong but im just giving you a heads up.

That price is high to me. Surf the classifieds on the forums and you can find better deals. There was a like new t45 tranny on craigslist for $200 the other day. I wouldn't pay that much unless I knew it was in great shape.

yeah i can get a t45 rebuilt for 600 or a brand new one for 1200 so i wouldnt wanna pay 600 for a tranny that might be no good since its been sitting or it might crap out on you and then pay another 600 for a rebuild. youd be at the same price. i know you're getting a lot of other parts with it but used clutch and flywheel is a bad idea.
