Thumbs up ATTN: Update on Gas Mileage

So i was getting about 16mpg on highway as per my post a few weeks ago. At first i tried driving like i was an old man, not only did it not help at all but i hated it!...

Now i have changed the fuel filter, oil, oil filter and and put 2 cans of injector cleaner in 2 sep tanks(O'reily sweared it was better than the rest) it was named like "bob's cleaner" or something.--just a guess on the name-- I havent changed the plugs yet, but now i'm getting around 19mpg highway. The first two tanks with the injector cleaner inside was horrible, it dipped down to around 15mpg; but now its much better! I may do the plugs saturday since i already bought them.

Thats also driving pretty aggresive all the time--sifting at 3000, going 70highway(2600 rpms), no coasting in neutral, A/C and radio at full blast most of the time, etc.

Are you certain you are not running too rich?

I get 22 mpg with my normal commute (44 miles one way, 8 miles at 45-55, 15 miles at 60-75, and 11 miles on I-95 at 70-80)

Mods as shown in my sig, and I the only reason I'd shift at 3k is if I was in heavy traffic--in fact, shifting at 3000 rpm means you are never getting in to the "meat" of the power band. That could be hurting you if you are applying a lot of throttle after shifting.

I normally shift at 4000 to 4500 rpm, and hit 6k at least 4 or 5 times a day...

Cliff...i didnt really mean i was trying to hit the power band or anything. i shift at 3000 just b/c thats where i always have on any of my sticks.

Its possible i am a little too rich, thats what i was thinking at one time, but ive recently had it tuned and hooked up to a computer(by dallas mustang) and everything is operating normally.

When i got the car, before any mods. i was getting about 21 or 22mpg. So its really not far from where i was! After the plugs though...i may just leave the pump and injectors alone in case i get a vortech kit that comes w/ them!

Hey--from 16 to 19 Im happy! I was even contemplating selling her if the 16 kept up!

Changing plugs is easy but on our cars is it a nightmare? I think I'm due, I know my brother's TA Firehawk requires the engine being moved, he obviously won't deal with that himself, he has to take it to the shop. Can I do my own easily? (2000 GT)

There's no "nightmare"...

The intake tube does have to be removed but that's easy, the rest is just taking off the COPs and removing/re-installing the plugs--30-45 minutes tops.

Where did you get the impression it was a bad dream?
