Default 3.73's in a 96 GT (AUTO)

I have a 96 GT auto and was going to put in 4.10's but before i ordered these i got a real good deal (in a trade) on a set of 3.73's FRPP.

My question is im now traveling roughly 60 miles a day to and from work (moved to a podunk little town) and am using this car currently as a DD will going with the 3.73's over the 4.10's be much of a noticeable difference performace wise?Right now theres the stock 3.08's and other than CAI,SCT tuner its stock.

My 89 coupe had 3.73's and it now has a 4.10 set and it made a huge difference but the new PA C4 went in at the same time so it was hard to tell what made the most of the difference.

if it's your DD and you do a lot of highway driving, I'd go with the 3:73's (especially since you already have the 3:73's).

There will be a difference performance wise (off the line) going from 3:73's to 4:10's...but not like the jump from 3:08's...it will feel like a new car.

I would still go w/ 4.10's. Everyone thinks gas mileage will suffer, but it will be so minute, you might not ever notice it. Most people that complain that gears killed their gas mileage are just seeing the effects of constantly smashing the gas down all the time. It adicting once you get gears, you just want to gas it all the time. If your driving habits stay the same, mileage will barely change.

if you already have the 3.73's use them, but that was a bad decision in the first place...

+1 w/ the 3.73's. You'll notice a hell of a difference from your 3.08's.

I would assume he just means that you shouldn't have bothered with the 3:73's in the first place, and you should have went straight for the 4:10's.

You could always sell them if that's the way you want to go. It's really a matter of what you prefer. If acceleration is all you're worried about, than yes, go for the 4:10's...but if you'd like to keep your RPMS's a little lower on the highway, than stick with the 3:73's. They are both nice ratios, just comes down to what you're looking for.

I have 3:73's is mine because that's what was in there when I bought it (w/ a 5spd). If I had the choice I'd go with 4:10's (but it's not a DD). Because it already had the 3:73's in there, it's not worth the $$ to do the swap, IMO.

It's obvious he is going to see a huge difference from 3.08 to 3.73...but when you have an automatic and you are trying to get all your bang for your buck, you really need to go with 4.10 or 4.30's.

Why leave performance on the table when it's not anymore expensive to do?

yes powerfreak is right, for an automatic, 3.73 is just not enough gear... 5 speed it is fine
