Transmission comes out of gear when braking?
Anyone ever had this problem? My ranger just started doing it, and I have the same tranny in my 'Stang I believe. It only does it on rolling stops - brake to about 5mph or so and get back on the gas and it revs to about 1500 rpm and then all the sudden feels like it goes back into first.
I am also noticeing that when I kick down from say 60mph. Feels like I get a subtle overrev and then "wham" it kicks into passing gear hard.

Sounds like your clutch might be slipping. Try driving in fifth gear at about 40-45 and flooring it. If your tach starts rising and your not going much faster, then you need a new clutch

RE: Transmission comes out of gear when braking?
Hello....McFly,
JGlisson is talking about an automatic here...there are many things that can cause this to happen. I would take the car to a competent transmission shop and have then check the pressures, etc on the car. It could be clutches, kick down system, etc so there is no way this forum really can help with a quick fix or difinitive answer. Sorry about that.

Right on. It is an auto. I talked with FORD and they told me because I haven't corrected my speedo since my gear change the computer could be causing the problem. Something about my shift parameters being out of spec because of the miscalculations of the speedo unit in the rear end
