Default 05' 4.6 swap into a 97 mustang

Hey all. Back on the 14th i totaled my baby . A neighbor of mine was kind enough to let me buy his 97 3.8 liter mustang from him for only 2500 and its in fantastic condition. the engine on my totaled 2005 is fine tho and i was wondering how difficult it would be to swap the 4.6 into the 97 mustang. if i could get feedback on what would need to be done and possible pricing that would be greatly appreciated. small chance that im going to be able to do it but just wanna hear what u guys think.

Thanks in advance

That would be a cool swap! Especially if you were to do the painted engine covers inside. That would look awesome!

It has been done before. But you have to lock down the cams because the pre 2005 does not have a way to control the VVT.

Wait i just realized the 97 is a v6. You maybe able to run the entire wiring harness form your 2k5 and come up with some custom gauge cluster.

You would probably need to swap out the rearend. As far as I know, the v6 comes with a 7.5. Not a big deal though since 8.8 's come a dime a dozen.

you would DEF need to swap the rear end, k member, ecu/wiring harness, tranny, driveshaft, front springs more than likely. it would be a killer swap IMO, screw a pi swapped motor go for a 3v n blow away most bolt on gts lol

yeah since youve got the whole motor youve got all you need, it will defintily be an involved swap, not a good idea for a daily driver but for a fun project... why not, youll learn alot

This is not a project for an amature.

The 05+ is different then any other mustang. The kmember is completely different and mounts different so you will have to have a custom one made. The headers would have to be custom. You can use the computer and harness no problem but you will have to figure out how to get the pedals from an 05+ to fit in that sn-95. The TB is computer controlled and you have to have the pedals. If you are gonna use the 05 tranny you will have figure out how to install the hydrolic clutch. You are going to need a custom driveshaft. You will also need to get an 8.8 rear end out of a 94-04 gt because the 05+ have different designs and will not mount into a sn-95 body.

More then likely it will be cheaper to buy a GT.
