ok so i bought the bbk air intake
http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-co...e-96-04gt.html
and i noticed when i received it,it didn t come with a bigger mass air flow but i guess i know it since those runs about 300$
can i still use he factory one?
and how would that affect it?
I m bummed ,any one have any advice how it would run without it because i really don t want to buy a 300$ mass air flow .

What mods do you have that make you believe you need a larger MAF?

The stock MAF is good for almost any n/a setup. Also don't expect any noticable power gain from and after market CAI, the OEM intake is a CAI and a fairly decent one at that.

/\ +1, you shouldn't have any problems with the stock maf unless you have some kind of f/i that we don't know about?

I used to have the BBK that I got from American Muscle on my '05. Yes, you can still use the factory MAF, it will not affect it at all, and your car will run just fine. I had my BBK CAI on for 1,500 miles with no problems at all. You also do not need to tune it, no matter what anyone else says. My car ran great with the BBK. The only thing you'll need are the tools to do the CAI install, and the intake itself. Contrary to what cliffyk posted, you will definitely feel the difference between the stock intake and an aftermarket CAI. It won't be a huge difference, but it will be there. The best thing you can do to these cars is to make them breathe better. A CAI is a good step into the right direction.

thanks guys for your feedback ,i feel it right now and it s not breathing good,
so that was my first step
next step ,i stuck between tuner or suspension upgrades or new trottle body but any ideas?

in the meantime i m buying slowly short shifter, clutch kit ,quadrant kit and probably might as well the flywheel until the tranny feels so rough that i have everything ready.
and i think the TKO 600 is probably better then the 6 speed.
i was told to get the tko600 and put 4.10 in it with a tuner and it will not be the same car.

sounds good or any other set up and priority first

correct me if im wrong, but the TKO 600 is mainly for use on higher power applications?

Really i don't know why you would drop the money for a tko tranny wether it be the 500 or 600 unless you're making a good bit of power... your stock tranny or its equivilent replacement should be fine for now unless your planning on going f/i in the future, even then they hold up decently... what year is ur car u either have the t-45 or the tr-3550, depending on what year your car is, if it goes i'd suggest a junkyard one for $200 rather than a $1600 TKO and the $400 bellhousing...

Have you done any exhaust work? That is the first place to start if you feel "it's not breathing" well.

The OEM exhaust is rather restrictive at higher rpms and replacing it with a 2-1/2" H or X-pipe (with or without cats, it really doesn't matter) and a 2-1/2" catback Will open things up a lot. If you've got the $$ and don't mind a lot of hassle then go with LT headers too (keep in mind that they are a PITA to install and one or both need to come off to get the tranny out).

Intakes mods won't accomplish a thing if the exhaust is under capacity.

"Twas me, I do the tuner next. Load a 93 octane tune and then tackle the intake mods, tweaking the tune as you go. This way you'll also already have the tuner when you do the gears.

As to transmissions, if and when mine fails I will be looking seriously at the TKO-600 model TCET5008 which has a 2.87:1 first gear; the 3650 and TKO-500s have 3.37 and 3.27 1st gears.

The 2.87 first gear ratio will match up better with a 4.10 read-end and keep 1st from being just a very brief run up to the rev-limiter.

The TKO-600 model TCET4617 also has a 2.87 first gear, however 5th gear is 0.82:1 vs the 0.64 of the TCET5008. If your car is also a DD the taller 5th gear would likely be preferred.

BTW--the TKO-500 and 600 trannies are the same units, the 600's all have 2.87:1 first gears which allows them to have a slightly higher maximum torque rating.
