Default one more gear question before buying

im as anxious as i can get because im pretty sure im buying 4.10s for my auto. the problem is i have a warranty from a dealership for used vehicles. it was on the drivetrain. what i was wondering was could the gears possibly mess up anything in the engine itself to void the warranty???

thank you

exactly what i was thinking. if anything ever messed up they would have no reason or thought to check for gears. nor would it hurt it. DO IT! I want to get 4:10's bad but damn't I keep finding other cool stuff too.

Make sure you take it to a shop that knows what hell there doing. Get references if you can...one thing I would like to point out is that you may pay much more to get the gears done at the dealership but I would think as long as you had the dealership install them they would warrant them because its them doing the skilled work unlike what they might call third rate shop skilled installation, basically them saying that they only warrant there work. Ford should then honor that warranty unless of a provision or something like...no modification what-so-ever is covered even at the dealership level.

Pay now or pay later is the moral here...if you don't have the gears installed right and they end up damaging something else as a result and the dealership finds out...well you signed a contract and you can pretty much kiss it goodbye...breach of contract...but if you get the chit installed right in the first place and not neutral dropping at 4 grand plus your gears shouldn't give you any problems to give the Ford dealership to hint at.

well the only place i know of is called jba racing they seem pretty legit and tahts what they specialize in. im going to do it. how hard will it b to get traction on street tires? im runnin stock tires 235/55/17 and i cant find anything with the same fat aspect ratio. will lowering the ratio in the back to 50 make the car look stupid?

I have 4.30's and still get pretty good traction. I can spin them with ease though if I want too. When you start playing around with the stall in the transmission then traction becomes more critical because of the higher rpms that you are shocking the tires with.

It all depends on what the plans are for your car. If you're driving it on the street only then some good street tires would be alright. Drag strip then drag radials are going to give you a more sticker plant into the pavement. If you was a manual and had 4.10's then you might have a traction issue but you are an auto and there are too many other factors that affect how your tires spin...road surfaces, temperature, tire or tread design and tread depth to name a few. I am going to have a 3700 stall put in my stang and with my 4.30 gears...blowing off the stock street tires won't be hard at all so I have some drag radials to reduce the spin.

I thought the only stock tire size for the 17's were 245/45/17?? You must have some pretty meaty sidewalls with that ratio...27.18 inch tall vs 25.68 tall with the 245/45/17's on stock 99-04 stangs.

ok so i am going with the 4.10s getting them installed in about 2 weeks. i was wondering if my car will b faster on the highway too compared to my stock gears. i almost lost to my friends 05 is300 from a 40 roll and i was hoping the 4.10s will make up for that

thanks

hey man i have 4.10's in my auto, a couple of things on your post i wanna clarify, 1. yes you will accelerate quicker on the highway 2. i would extremely recommend getting a tune for your gears instead of just recalibrating the speedo... it will shift very rough unless you do so, besides those two, you will love it! great choice!
