What RPM to shift at when racing?
Do you guys know what the best RPM to shift at when racing is? When I took my mostly stock 04 GT to the track for the first time on Thursday I was shifting really late at like 6000rpm's or so. 3rd gear also didn't go in as explained in one of my theads and now I suspect that because the RPM's were too high because when I tested out my car just now tonight shifting alittle lower, I managed to go into 3rd. After doing some reading I hear that shifting at 5000-5500rpm is the way to go.
My dad told me that V8's don't need to rev that high like smaller 4cyl's like Civics do...
Now I am afraid that I may have damaged my motor during my 5 passes I had on Thursday. Basically none of the times did 3rd gear work. I shifted from 1st to 2nd at like 5800-6000rpm and I hit the rev limiter many times. Do you guys think something is gonna go soon?

These engine can take a beating. Hitting the rev limiter WILL slow you down....since the egine makes peak power at like 5250 or something? you should shift 5-700 RPM's over that so that way when your rpms drop after you shift it puts you in your powerband.

When I did the research on it I discovered that our cars do not make any more horsepower after 5200RPM's. Sorry I can't give you a link to the site that I found that information but I researched it a while ago and can't remember. But bo is right, shift at around 53 or 5400 so you don't lose to much rpms. Or you can power shift....but I wouldn't recomend that unless you have another daily driver to use incase yours breaks. Power shifting is keeping the gas pedal down while you do your shift. It will jump your rpms up a **** load once you put that clutch in but you won't lose a lot of rpms once you let it out. However it's hard on your daily driver since you are letting out your clutch with your rpms so high.
