I think the rods and pistons he has were taken apart and put back togather incorrectly. The marks on the piston and rods should be on the same size.

That's what I said.... The knub on teh piston goes to the front of the motor, and the rods identification mark goes forward as well (like the diagram shows...)

i need ford specs for the rods and pistons, that image in the early post shows a 03, mines a 98, may be that theres some difference in the assembly percedure, my rods and pistons were not seperated, nor were the caps mixed up, they are factory,****ty pieces that are going back in with new bearings and rings, but i still need to know which way, WHAT IS THE KNUB??? IS THAT THE DOT??? my pistons have a dot on one side, and a R on the other, the markings on that image posted are not the same, the dot is opposite the markings on the rod, the R is on that side with the rod markings.

+1 -- Whether it's a dot, or a cast nub/tit, a notch in the piston head, or whatever. Anything that qualifies as a "mark" goes toward the front. Fords have always been that way.

ok thanks for all the input, but i just went to the ford dealer and they gave me the info i needed, basically the tit on the rod bearing goes towards the center of the engine, which is the answer to my question. thanks to everyone who chipped in, i just started a new thread to find out how to orientate the rings on the pistons.
