Default Hot shifter

Does anybody know why when I drive my car for a while, especially for a long time, my shifter gets hot? I can also feel a little heat from it. I know its hot cause I can feel it thru the leather boot. Why is it like that??? Thanks.

everyones manual trans does it im pretty sure. both of mine do, the exhaust is right there, and all the heat pretty much travels up the boot from under the car. and the transmission doas also get warm itself, and the shifter is attatched directly to the trans.

If I were you I would get the tranny fluid changed anyhow. You never know how old that tranny fluid is from the previous owner. He/she (well probably he LOL i'm bored) may not have ever changed it. Also the initial factory spec was 4 quarts of fluid but Ford later realized that 3.2 quarts was better.

My shifter does get warm, and with the Bullitt shift **** feels really warm. I also noticed when I went to a bassani catted x I get a little more heat coming from the shift boot. I am assuming because the route of the piping on the bassani is closer to that area than the stocker mid pipe.
