from what I have learned from 3 diff builders is when doing a pi swap it is best to rebuild the bottom end of motor. the increase in compression will most likley blow your old piston rings and so on. best to get whole pi motor

WHAT? Did you just make that up? I have never seen or heard of that happining because of increased compression on any engine. If the car has a bad tune in it yes but not one that is tuned correctly.

OP, The first thing you should look at is if the heads are romeo or windsor since you have romeo heads and I'm sure you don't want to have to buy new valve covers. Also in 01 there were still some intakes with the plastic crossover on the intake so be aware of it and save for a better one.

+1 I had never heard that from anyone before.

But I really doubt that increasing the compression ratio from 9.5:1 to ~10.2:1 IIRC will hurt anything.

He's not entirely off base. Of the last few people on here to have done the PI swap shortly after they had issues and wound up either buying a short block or replacing the entire assembly.

He should have said, If he has an engine with high miles & questionable serviceability, he should consider just buying a full PI engine, Plus the full PI engine will keep factory Compression ratio stock for the future F/I (non-N20) and pump gas.

well my parents bought it brand new and it's been passed down to me, so i know it was taken care of. And i ran synthetic in it since i got it at 50,000 miles and now it has 79,000 miles. So i'd think it fairly low milage.

You will need to buy new valve covers. But other then that they will slap right on.
