The clutch pedal is self adjusting. You can pull up on the pedal and that will help, but Im sure it isnt going to move at all which means your clutch cable is stretched out.

Clutch cable adjustment, unless it's so loose the clutch is dragging, will not have any great impact on shifting.

Have you ever changed the transmission fluid, if so how much did you put in?

There's a Ford TSB (04-15-6 click here) that speaks to difficult shifting, and among other things recommends using only 3.0 L (3.2 qts) of fluid rather then the 3.8L shown in the owner's manual.

The reduces the potential for hyrdo-locking of the shift rods and detents at higher engine speeds.

i have never changed the oil in the trans i assumed it used a gear oil because i did not see a tranny dipstick in the engine bay. i see that i have to use MERCON ATF fluid but where would i apply the fluid to the pan?

There's not a "pan" so to speak on the manual tranny's. You should have a t3650 tranny. You jack the car up crawl under it you should see a drain plug on the bottom side of the tranny housing, you'll use a 3/8 ratchet w/ little exstension to unscrew it... up on the side of the tranny housing is another plug... hence the Fill plug... make sure you can get the fill plug out 1st... would suck to drain the tranny to have something happen and you not be able to get it filled back up!

Both the drain and fill Plug should be on the passenger side!

The very first thing one should do upon buying a used car is change every drop of fluid it it, from the radiator to the rear-end. I don't care if the seller swears on a stack of Bibles that they just got done doing it, do it your self anyway.

Right now you don't even know if it has fluid in it and you're out there doing 2nd->3rd powershifts...
