The accepted automotive way of figuring things out is while sitting in the car... Therefore

Left would be driver, right would be passenger. ALL repair books, mechanic guides, and parts lookup books are setup with that in mind.

I am pretty sure Steve is right I remember looking at the cam gears when I did my heads, and each side is stamped with RH and LH so IIRC the right bank is the drivers side.
