Default Help with new cam install

I just got a new set of comp cam ex270ah cams and the comp cams springs to go with. I am looking for torque specs for the swap as well as any tips on the swap including "easy" ways to get the old springs out and the new ones in. Thanks

There is no easy way to change springs, other than just diving in and start swearing. You will need the OTC valve spring compressor, and a screwdriver with grease to help get the valve keepers back in.

89 in/lbs is the torque spec for the cam caps. Those cams MUST be degreed, or else you will run into piston to valve clearance. To do so will require an adjustable solid lifter, to set zero lash. If you need one, send me a PM and I can set you up with one.

I don't like the OTC tool. I use a regular over head cam spring compressor. works fine as long as the cams are out. Don't forget that you need to pressurize the cylinder with air so the valve doesnt fall or you will have to put every cylinder at TDC one at a time.

The guys at comp said that I would have plenty of valve clearance with the 270 they said that the 278's would need additional work. Are you sure that I will need to allow for more clearance

If you degree the cams, you'll have plenty of PTV clearance. However, if you install them as is, you will not.

You should never install cams without degreeing them anyways.
