I'm running a stock intake with a K&N filter and i'm happy with it. I also removed the snorkel. There has been some talk about whether the snorkel removal will be really good or not. When your car is parked and you are reving, you will notice that it will rev a bit faster, but after driving a while, some poeple say that despite having a filter cover, you may be taking in hot air around the engine bay.

My suggestion is to cut the snorkel so that it sits flush against the fenderwell but have a much bigger opening.

On mustangworldDOTcom there is also a write up on a homemade CAI. Basically it's just PVC tubing that extends to the fenderwall and having the filter inside the well.

+1 on drop in. I've run them all, and there's no difference between any.

And your car has two cams, so it's a little more involved and expensive.
