Rotor question and a couple of pics
All right here we go. So today i went out and borrowed my dads garage so i could install my new Hawk front pads i bought 4 months ago and i get everything off, take the rotors up to O'rileys to get them turned and they tell me they cant turn them because ford didnt make them with enough metal to turn and i would have to buy new ones.
That doesnt sound right to me, the rotors are not warped at all and they have very little scoring and have never been turned before. So with my time running out before i move out of town and have no where to work on my car at i go back to my dads, sand the rotors down and put on the new pads do the brake in stops and seat the new pads in and WOW what a diffrence.
Has anybody else on here had this problem???? i think that the parts guy read the thickness of the rotors wrong but i was just wanting to hear some other thoughts.
Oh i also took some pics while i was out there. i love the views from there.

not at all. i followed the brake in instructions on the box- 6-10 35mph-0 stops with moderate perssure and 3-5 45mph-0 hard stops let cool for 15 mins and not one sound at all. The rears will be done in the next day or 2. its a night and day diffrence in pads, buy the way i love the quote in your sig. lol

i have had that happen before on cars at work, if they are machined they will be below minimum thickness. alot of the rotors in the last 10 years or so are designed to be lighter to help save mileage. this means less matterial and shorter life.

I still think you should get the rotors turned. If they haven't been turned before they should be able to get cut. Look up the specs and get a pair of calipers to measure them. You could always go to carquest or napa and get both front rotors I think they were only about $25 a piece when I got mine.

lol its not a highway, just a road going thru the mountain to the next county.
as for the rotors im going to order some new ones from summit. Napa and Car quest dont do rotor turning they have local shops that do it and no one is willing to touch them in fear of liability of a lawsute. Oh well i guess its time to start saving for a cobra brake upgrade!!!! my wife will love to hear that!!lol
