I just got the Sniper Commando upgrade and find that there are a numer of tables and functions in the tune related to fuel enrichment for hot starting, heat soak, etc. I'm going to play with some of that once I become more familiar with the wholw thing.

Knowing that if I let the fuel pressure stabilise before cranking it got better, I found a function named Cranking A/F Ratio, which is ECT vs AFR. The commanded AFR at 200° ECT was 13.81, and 13.1 at 140°.

I richened it to 13.25 at 200° and it seems to be improved, it's to soon to know for sure and I am still in the habit of hesitating a bit after turning the key to ON, but we'll see...

I think the 04 mustangs have a returnless fuel system but mine is an 03 and it has a return if it does have a return then you have to have a scan tool to check the fuel pressure. My car does that sometimes but very rarely.

All '99+ 4.6L GTs have returnless fuel systems, including your '03 (if it's a GT).

cliffy, do you know if your 03 is an early production or late production (04 style)? mine's a late production, thus i have a different tune, slightly different piston (i think?), revised PCV system, revised exhaust and some of the intake. the reason i ask is that my girlfriends 99 GT doesnt have this problem nor does my friends early production 03 GT so i really have to wonder if its just us late ones and maybe the 04s?...

i have the hot start problem too, if i miss the start on the first try (releasing the key a bit too early) then i usually have to crank it for a while before it starts on the second try. kinda embarassing at the gas station

Later, February 2003...

My brother has a '99 and his also behaves as it should...

I have almost convinced myself that enrichening the Cranking A/F Ratio at 200° ECT has corrected the problem--it is at least sufficiently better that if I have anymore issues I will add another point or two...

ah, ok! good! any drawbacks to this??

also thats very dissappointing...i thought that the late 03s and all of 04s were supposed to be the pinnacle of the new edge...
