The actual definition

Wheel hop
An undesirable suspension characteristic in which a wheel (or several) moves up and down so violently that it actually leaves the ground. Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control.

If you buy LCAs buy UCAs as well. I put STAGE 3 roush control arms and my car hopped everywhere over the track lol. Shocks wont fix your problem upper and lower control arms will

I went the inexpensive route and bought the Granatelli U/LCAs with poly bushings. Granted, my mods are few thus far, but I have no wheel hop. I also have no traction to speak of, but that's my tires.

IRS= wheelhop, if you launch the car. If you throw slicks on it and even think about taking it to the track you will twist or snap the axle if you have 600+ hp. Not sure about stock as I never ran slicks with the car stock, but even the car stock would wheel hop if you powershift.

If you were to upgrade the uppers using spherical rod ends but still use stock everything else including tire you will have no wheel hop.
I'm sure I wasn't confusing the violent shaking on launch with no traction. I see your point and I've read a little more about it but by my experience, getting sticky tires did reduce my wheel hop. Although admittedly, I am more confused about it than even after reading 10 pages of tech on suspension.

I can see how mustagman281's suggestion of stiffer UCA bushings would help. I think UCA's and LCA's would be a next good mod, they both should help.

Also sxynerd, I have also heard and had experienced hard sidewall tires causing wheel hop. Switching to stickier tires that gave a little more pretty much eliminated it. My dad's truck, an '01, he cheaped out one time and bought some cheap tires for it, they were harder compiound designed to last longer, and it wheel hopped like crazy when launching or 1st gear punch. But he switched back to a softer compound tire, Eagle F1's, and he had no more wheel hop.

So basically the OP's wheel hop is somewhere in his rear control arms and tires.

SOFTER, tires definitly help with wheel hop on a car with not that much tourqe, but once you get up there in power tires alone wont do it.

you dont want a panhard bar, and are you sure its wheel hop? is your car lowered or stock height, and do you have an aluminum driveshaft? ive seen a guy on here he had lowered his car and put an aluminum driveshaft on his car and whenever he would get on it 1st-2nd when the car would squat, the driveshaft was hitting that tunnel under the car which seemed like wheel hop. after jacking it up and looking at it i seen where it was rubing and i dented it in and its been fine since. if its not that then your experiencing wheel hop, just figure id throat that idea in incase your car was modified when you got it.
