question regarding hp gains from handheld tuners

I'm guessing you already have MIL eliminators because of your exhaust set-up, so I wouldn't think a tune would hurt your chances of passing.

I have a feeling tunes are the most under represented mod as far as the 2v mustang. It's probably the single biggest gain in power you can buy for 400 dollars. People waste money, needlessly on throttlebodies and plenums, H pipes and catbacks, pullies, spending near if not more than 1000 dollars, when all they had to do was get a tuner that would of gave more HP than all those mods combined and given a diffrence you could actually feel.
If you want to hit 13s with less than perfect skill level on a bone stock mustang on street tires, just get a tuner and a K&N filter.

The sct tunes usually turn off your rear 02s which are used to read on a smog test. You want to take your tune off and run your car for a week or so before you go in for emissions and you will pass then put you tune back on. And I also recommend using a tuner as it does make a big difference, once you use it for a while then take it off you will notice a big difference and want to put it back on right away.

I got the SCT x3 from LRS and have yet to get a dyno tune, but just doing the 93 octane tune and a slight bump in timing it feels much more lively. Especially at the top end. Not to mention my mpg went from around 20 to around 24, even with spirited driving.
On my last stang I got the Sniper dyno tune. It provided more power, but at the expense of economy.
