if i were you id take it in and have a professional do it. not worth blowing up your rearend to save a few $$. thats just me tho. i beleive you'll need a gauge to set the backlash and some other stuff. i forgot totally how its done.

im not removing my ring and pinion gear... i shouldnt need to gauge anything... i think ill need feeler gauges if i decide to put new clutch packs in, but thats it

my rear end is already blown up lol

and ill never pay a professional to do work that i can do in my garage...probably a good 500 bucks to do these gears at a dealership and i bet it takes me no longer than 2 hours not having any idea what im doing....ive already got the case open, the brakes are removed, gotta take crosspin out and the s spring then slide the axles in and remove the u clamp then slide those out of the way....what next? do the gears just fall out? repack the clutches onto the new gears, shove them back in, stick the crosspin back through, then put it back together?

i probably wont even put new clutches in it, i just want to get the car driving...its not going to be driven hard again for a long time, worst that happens is i get a 1 wheel peel, which is fine for me...its getting a 9" next year and a new motor

i just want it driveable incase my daily breaks for whatever reason

Ok, first off, you dont need the S spring out to remove the axles...second, once the pin is out, your goin to have to "walk" the spiders out.. Twisting one of the axles witht he pin out will twist the spiders and you should be able to pull them out.. You sure you can handle this job?

i wasnt being particular about removing the spring before or after the axles, i was just stating that it needs to be done...not sure what crawled up your sandy vag but thanks for the help i guess

a friend showed me how to do it tonight on an 8.8 he had in his garage....he removed them and reinstalled in a matter of 2 minutes....i think a 5 year old could handle it

thanks for the help guys
