What gears?

What gears?
I have a 2000 GT auto vert. I was planning on putting gears in and was wondering what I should put. I have been told that 4.10s are great but I would lose a lot of fuel economy and was better off with 3.73s. It is not a daily driver or a racer, I drive it when it is nice out and I do like to go fast. I have a cold air indiction, hypertech premium tune, pulleys and O/R H pipe. Any help would be great

4:10's or gtfo. If you get 3:73's you'll be pissed and want more. Fuel economy shouldn't be on your mind if you bought a mustang, and i have heard people that actually got better gas mileage with 4:10's.

4:30's. I was going to go 4:30's with my car but i decided i was gonna spray it, and got a set of 3:73's cheap so thats what i did...decided to not spray it, and freakin hate them....their not far enough from stock for me to really tell. Our mod motors need all the gear they can get due to the lack of torque.

4.10s are the best overall gears you can get for a stang. they really dont hurt your mpg nearly as much as people would have you believe, and the performance you gain is nothing short of amazing.

people here this and people hear that, you wont notice a fuel difference, so whoever tells you that is simple a retard, they go by hearsay, my cobra had 2.73 factory and i put 4.10s in it, i didnt notice a mpg diff, not unless im on insterstate doing 80-85 at 3 grand. then youll notice. what gears you want all depends on what you want to do with it.
3.73s are good if your just gonna race every once in awhile and drive it everywheres.
4.10s are good if your gonna do ALOT of racing, but trust me it gets annoying driving after awhile with 4.10s
4.30s if your just gonna race it on the track and never drive it elsewhere.
then again i have o/r x-pipe with mac catback(louder the flowmasters) and its nice short distances and ill fry 1-2 & spin a little of 3rd, with 315/35/17 on the back. but if you drive over a distance it gets annoying. its why i got me another dd. lol

i read he has an auto, but he asked for opinions, so i gave him what he wanted to hear, if he really wanted 4.10s he wouldnt be asking about gas, if it was MY car, i would go with 4.10s due to it being an auto, i just hate having 4.10s on a standard, because i live in the city.

+1 on the 4.10's!

Since the way you drive your mustang is pretty much the way I drive mine. I would go with 4.30's. Some of your responders here are talking about the great debate that is always brought up in gear threads, between the "4.10's better than the 4.30's" or "the 4.30's are too much of a gear talk". W/that being said...I am going to keep my mouth shut about it...and tell you simply that 4.30's for a N/A to lightly modded(bolt-ons) 4.6 mustang automatic impo is one of the better set-ups for a non DD car. It can be used on DD's at an expensive of consuming more gas depending on how you drive the car...street or interstate? Or to an extent of how hard you are driving your car daily, fast, normal, or granny style?
I have 4.30's and can tell you that they aren't the gear to fear like some make them out to be. They are more suited for autos...but will work on manuals also, at an expense of a much shorter 1st gear which sometimes leaves traction at wish-wash depending on the driver or the mechanic's of the car. If you are looking to maximize acceleration and don't plan on going much past 100mph...then it's the gear for you. The next best thing you can do is upgrade the torque converter to a 3200+stall, that with the gears and some good DR's...it will feel like you have a car much more powerfull than you actually have because you just increased the efficiency from the output torque/hp of the motor. A bolt-on auto with 4.30's, deep stall, and approving mods to get the traction that the car needs, can get well into the 13's. Hell just the gears and the converter will put you into the 13's with nothing more than just good rubber!
