Changing transmission fluid on a T45
K so my shifting is feeling kinda sloppy, so I figured I would start with the easy and change the tranny fluid. I figured I would let a shop do it, if its cheap enough, if not I will do it myself. I asked a shop and the guy said $200! He said they would flush out the whole system etc. I said I planned on just draining it from the plug and filling it through the shifter. He said that was a waste and the whole system had to be flushed out for it to do anything.....
Now is he bull ****ting me? Or just trying to get me to do more than whats necessary? From what I;ve heard people usually just drain the fluid and fillit back up correct?
Also does anyone have any tutorial things with pics? I think I have a good idea of what to do from reading, but pics are always nice. And Is it possible to do this with just a jack? Does the car have to be level? Can I get at the plug if the car is flat on the ground?
Thanks.

Don't have any tutorials or pics but $200 is bull****. Unless hes talking about an auto but even then $200 is higher up there in the price range.
Make sure he knows it's a stick, because when I called around most places automatically assumed I had to have had an auto. You don't need to flush the oil, just drain and refill.
I wish I could do stuff myself but I just don't have the means to do so. I took my car to Pepboys. I gave them a call beforehand and I asked how much it would cost to change my tranny oil if I had my own oil. They said $130. I said really? it's a stick. They then said oh thats $35 then.
I'm not sure if the T45 is the same as the TR3650 but I know the factory fill was later deemed too much. Appearently it causes hydrolocking which may be the reason to why you may feel more resistance when you shift at the higher RPM's. The factory fill was 3.7 quarts I think. The recommended fill is now 3.2. But again, I'm not sure if that applies to the T45 too.
Make sure you have a siphon pump or whatever because you won't be able to fill the tranny with oil by "pouring" it in with the bottle. The filling hole or whatever it's called is at the very top of the tranny so you need to pump it in.

+1.. but I filled up my T45 allll the way to the top of the fill hole until it started pouring out all over me.

Its takes about 3 and 1/2 quarts of fluid. There is no way to flush a 5 speed, he must be thinking about an automatic, where you would flush via the tranny cooler lines. Just do it your self its very easy.

Just a shade under a gallon, and getcha a Chiltons, plenty of pictures, and script to figure out what you're doing.
Automatic is 13.1 Liters
Manual 3.1 Liters.
Heres where I get most of my info for fluid capacities, usually I go to the owners manual first, then Chiltons, then this website: http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/fluids.htm
