Default What's Rebuilt Engine

hey guys, I was just wondering what exactly goes into a "rebuilt engine". What new parts are put into it. Also wondering some average costs to rebuild. It'd be for a 2001 Bullitt. thanx

Forged or stock rebuild?

Forged will set you back a set of rods, pistons, rings, main studs and bearings. A crank can be included, if you are so inclined.

Forged shortblocks will set you back $2,000-$5000 depending on how mild-wild you go.

well to stay fairly stock, no superchargers or turbos.
just a basic rebuild, what would it cost about?

It all depends on dedication and quality of who rebuilds it, and what condition the original parts are in. In theory everything should be brought to well within the factory acceptable wear limits.

Sleazy rebuilders will let things through that barely make (or are "close enough" to) the acceptable wear limits, the good builders will replace anything that is not solidly within spec.

If you're going to do rebuild, why not go forged? It makes sense to have a stronger bottom end if you're going to go through the trouble of doing a rebuild. Although you say you have no plans for s/c or turbos, but later you may want to do something along those lines or maybe even nitrous. http://www.haneymotorsport.com/HMS%2...ing%20Kits.htm

Are you having problems with your motor? Are you using oil? Does black smoke come out of your tail pipes when you accelerate? Has your car failed a compression test? 100k+ miles isn't a reason to rebuild.

I have 108k on mine and the oil use between oil changes is hardly noticeable.

Run the motor in the car until something happens to it, like a spun rod bearing or something. If you treat the car right, it can last like 200k...
