Default Dumb tire question

I'm about to purchase new tires for my stang. Its an 02GT and the specs on the original tires are 245/45/17. My question is how wide of a tire can I put on the stock rims??

Really? do you know where I can get pics of 17X8's with 275's?

I've been wanting to run a wider rear so I've been thinking about getting 17X9's and they say the maximum width I can use with that is 275's.

No bigger than 275/40's. There's no point in pushing the limits on something that can be very easily be a safety issue.
