Default P0161 - OS Heater Sensor Malf and Tuners Questions

I am most likely going to be buying a Tuner with my tax return check (or sooner if my longevity check comes in before then). I do have some questions about the tuner.

I have MINOR mods on my car.. Have a Densecharger CAI, I have a prochamber Mid and SLP LM2's. Next will be the tuner and most likely TB/Plen when I get the money (4-6 months out). I am sure the tunes on it are more than enough so I am thiniking that a custom isn't worth the cash.

Main reason I am wanting the tuner is for the CAT MIL. I do have MIL Elims on that I THOUGHT was throwing my Check Engine code but after work on the car this last weekend I realized I should have paid closer attention to the actual code description as is not saying bad /missing O2 sensor. It is actually throwing a P0161.

P0161 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Malfunction (HO2S-22) See DTC P0135

P0135 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Malfunction (HO2S-11) During testing the HO2S Heaters are checked for opens/shorts and excessive current draw. The test fails when current draw exceeds a calibrated limit and/or an open or short is detected. Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S.
Water in harness connector.
Open VPWR circuit.
Open GND circuit.
Low battery voltage.
Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
Damaged HO2S heater.
Damaged PCM.
Wiring.
Damaged HO2S heater.
Damaged PCM.

My question, Will the tuner remove this code as I can tell it that there O2 sensors are missing? I have checked for the fuse as my searching says that is a common cause of this code but I find conflicting stories.. it is NOT in the box near the battery, it is under the dash.. it IS in the box near the battery.. is is slot 8 under the dash.. it is slot 12 here.. etc.. So I am rather confused.

Any advice would be awesome.

Are the rear O2 sensors literally "missing", as in not installed at all?

If so then this is the code to expect. MIL eliminators condition (filter, reduce) the signal from properly functioning rear sensors so as to trick the PCM. I.e. the rear sensors have to be there, installed in the exhaust pipe, and fully wired including the heater circuits, in order for MIL eliminators to work.

Yes,... everything that should be there is there.

I drove the car with the OR pipe for 2-3 years.. I figured my MIL Elim had gone bad so I bought 2 more. Replaced them, pluged them in.. cleared the code.. and still getting it.

I just reread my original post.. it should read...

My question, Will the tuner remove this code as I can tell it that the CATS are missing?

Yes, a good tuner will disable both the catalytic converter and rear O2 sensor heater monitoring.

However, do the new MIL eliminators you got also preserve the heater wiring--I.e. are all four wires still connected?

There is also the possiblity that one or both rear O2 sensors have failed. MIL eliminators filter the signal from working rear O2 sensors to trick the PCM. If one or both of the rear sensors has failed then there will be no signal to filter...

Well.. a Turner seems well worth the money then as it woudl be silly to spend the money on new O2 sensors just to "Eliminate" them. Looks like a SCT Livewire it is!
