Weird Ticking Noise.

Weird Ticking Noise.
As I was driving past a concrete divider on the highway the other day with the windows down I noticed a ticking sound echoing off the wall. I gassed the car a bit and the ticking got louder. I let off the gas completely and I couldn't hear the noise. There's definitely a ticking sound coming from the passenger side but it only does it when I accelerate. If I put it in neutral and gas it there's no sound. If the car's just idling I can't hear it either. So all you mechanically inclined good folks, do I have the dreaded ticking problem or something else? If it was the timing chain problem wouldn't it make the noise all the time? In case it matters, 04 GT 47000 miles stock. Thanks guys.

Well my failure started off as a tick only when passing a wall or driving through a parking garage..

Update.
As I type this I'm smiling. I got under the car today on a hunch and I found the source of the weird ticking noise that's been pissing me off for about two weeks. There was a thumbtack sized hole in the passenger side exhaust. It was right by the front wheel. When I would accelerate the air coming out of the hole made a hissing sound that combined with the spinning wheel made a ticking like sound. Long story short, to be sure I put a little mighty putty over the hole and now there's no sound a all.
