Can you replace the rod baring without taking the engine out? I know the engine sits directly on the rack n pinion. Will a rod baring cause any other damage? especially since i have driven over 3000 on it with it like it is.

I can tell you right now that you spun a rod barring. If you don't replace it and keep driving on it you will bend rods. This happen to me and that is the exact noise that came from my car.

Well, did yours quieten down after the engine warmed? And can you fix it without taking the engine out. Im not sure if you can access it since the engine sits on the rack.

it would only take about 3-4 hrs to pull w/picker and regular hand tools.its mostly plugs.u wont b able to pull the pan completly off to check all the bearings.and retork correctly.

I'm really curious on this one because my 99' GT has the EXact same ticking 111k miles. One mechanic said that the compression was out on one piston(I think he was playing up the job for profit though). Wouldn't a v8 missing comp on a piston run really raggedy??? The guy I bought the car from said the tick came on almost immediately(yes I bought a ticky GT). At first I thought it was a broken valve flopping around in the Cylinder but I really think all cylinders are firing.

Also thought a broken bearing somewhere?? Anyway since I've got the exact same ticking I'll update my findings--maybe a video. Anyways just got the car and love it otherwise--I've never owned a V8...I'll call it my Acura killer. Thanks guys

Also, tick nearly goes away at idle, increases w/ Rpms(perhaps not a timing chain?). Also it's almost loud enough at revs to be obnoxious/scary sounding. Exhaust leak? injector? valve train? timing chain?

if you have been driving on it for more than 15 miles and it dosent sound worse than that there isnt a chance in hell it is a spun rod bearing... how long has the loud noise been going on for? Possibly a different noise than before?? Sometimes in the vid it sounds like a bearing, other times it sounds a little 2 soft, like a wicked fukin exaust leak... how bout a bent rod?

it could also be your distributor rod too short. Take out the distributor and replace the rod with one that is a few millimeters longer. then try her.
