Default Powershifting?

This is my first 5 speed (04 GT Mustang).

I have read about and watched on Youtube about the proper way to shift at the track without messing your ride up.

Please, someone, tell me exactly how to powershift my car without ripping the **** out of it.

Thanks,

Jacob

you ask 10 people what "power shifting" is and you'll probably get 10 different answers. If it was my car, I would just shift normally (but quickly) at redline.

Really is a practice makes perfect sorta thing. Wouldn't recommend learning on your new GT.

powershifting? bad... i consider that to be slamming gears quickly without ever letting off the gas, WOT all the time....sure you will be faster, till it breaks

+1 Power shifting is putting your foot to the floor and not letting up while shifting gears. I gave up powershifting a long time ago. I missed second and tore up both the motor and the transmission. There are a lot of complaints about Mustang transmissions on these forums. Our transmissions are not designed to take that type of abuse.

Speed shifting is similar to power shifting only you briefly take your foot off the gas.

By definition "at the track" = "beating the crap" out of your car, unless you are not there to get the best times you can--or your car is in the parking lot and you're just there to watch...

I agree power shifting is when you do not remove your foot from the gas while the clutch is engaged. I too am having problems with my transmission so I am going to get it rebuilt in the spring. I do have a few questions about what is good and what is bad when it comes to shifting.

1. Is it bad for the transmission to engage the clutch while the car is at rest then get the tac to 4000 or 5000 and then dump the clutch. You know how you would do a burn out or power break with out a line lock?

2. The same concept as before but you driving at 60? For example if I was going 60mph and then downshifted to third, got the tac to 5000 then just dumped the clutch, is that bad? (assuming the car tacs about 3800 in 3rd gear at 60mph)

3. Same situation as 2 but you match the rpm?

4.Same situation as 2 but you let the rpm drop then shoot back up when you disengege the clutch?

I would guess that none of these are good for the car. But how bad are they? This guy I work with has a mustang that is slower than mine and he always wants to street race (which I don't do). He does all of the above to his car rather often and I keep telling him he is going to destroy his transmission be he wont believe me. So, to be fair, I want to consider the possibility that I might be wrong. Don't misunderstand I have done some of this shifting stuff to my car on a rare occasion, but hardly at all.
