is it possible for him to run a die over the stud to freshen up the threads? I think the stud is messed up not the filters. Any new filter is going to do the same thing now from what he is saying.

yeah I agree, got to fix those threads. Now that I look at hte pic, its all crooked, the stud is cross threaded like everybone says. I guess if you cant fix it buy a new stud/oil cooler combo ( I think they come together). I have only changed a few on econos van, not hard, good luck.

Im pretty sure the "stud" itself can be removed and replaced. The center should look like a allen key. I think its removeable and replaceable. You shouldnt have any clearance issues with anything but the stupid little plastic sheild around the sway bar...
