ive installed 4 gears now, the first set whine a little bit but im pretty sure its cuz the backlash is a little tight. everything else has never ahd any type of gear whine. all of the gears were motive gears. as for the vibrations, most driveshafts arent balanced for that kind of speed you are putting it through now. most people get an aluminum ds and it takes all the vibrations away, because with gears, you are pretty much spinning it 1.5 times faster than stock

Gears should not whine.... they make noise - yes. they all will to some minor extent, but if its an audible whining sound... not good

Took a ride with, and had a talk with the installer, hes agreed to take it all apart and look over everything this weekend, after he came to the realization I know a thing or two about gear installs.

The gears I used were new richmonds. My neighbor who was going to put them in but has been too busy, has thrown in tons of richmonds with only 1 set giving him difficulties. He also suggested the guy either damaged my d/s during the u-joint replacement or the u-joints them self are putting the d/s out of whack.

The vibration is more apparent when you let off the gas oppose to throttling it around 75mph, I've had the car up to 100 mph in the passed and the ds isn't spinning faster than it was with stock gears @ 100. 100 miles on the gears now and the cars sitting till he looks at it. May be too late but the guys willing to try to quiet them down after he re-checks the set up of the gears.

Also I originally used 80-90 weight oil and hope going to 75-140 may help a bit with whatever else he tries. This whine is so loud I hear it over my stereo at 5/8ths volume with a 12 inch sub.

Richmond gears are notorius for whine but if installed correctly there will be no whine. My mechanic installed my gears for a $150.00 and after 8,000 miles, no whine what so ever.
