Default Help, #7 Ignition Coil Shorted/TB Problem

So recently my car has been shuddering/hesitating a lot more than it has for the last few months. It also began stalling out on me and check engine light on.
I brought it to FORD for a diagnostic, and figured out what was finally wrong.

They told me the #7 ignition coil shorted out, along with an extreme build-up of carbon in the throttle body...along with a bunch of other BS that i could easily do myself, like headlight bulbs and windshield wipers. :P

They said i have to pay the diagnostic fee of $79 or so, but that the replacement of the coil and the "fuel tune" they called it, would cost me ~$540

Is there anyway I can buy some parts or do it myself; possibly get it done by a another shop? or would it be recommended to do it through ford even though they are most likely overcharging me out the ***.

I would do everything myself if I were you. Sounds like they need to make $$$$ of you. I mean the economy is pretty bad right now. Everyone's looking for a hustle.

They probably charge like $200. just to erase the check engine light.

Yeah i'd figure i'd buy a new coil myself and possibly just a whole new TB for upgrade purposes and just go from there looking for shops

If you replace the cop and Tb I don't know if your car will naturally turn its CEL off. I have a SCT tuner that I can use to clear codes. Just do everything yourself.

How hard are the ignition coils to replace?
I've never had any experience with them before.

piece of cake, one bolt, and one wire clip and it pulls right off just like a regular spark plug wire

Also does this seem right that the #7 coil would cause the problems that I am describing (stalling when driving, rough acceleration/hesitations?)

Because i went another shop and he said that doesn't make any sense cause there's 4 packs on the coil or something...i don't really understand what he was saying, but he could just be some guy trying to make more money. The shop wasn't anything special but they had certified mechanics.

It makes sence. Since that coil shorted out it meses up the fire order, causing the hesitation. Unsure if it would cause the stallling.

A dead mis will cause rough idle and hesitation. Might lead to stalling as well. IF #7 is indeed dead, then replace the coil pack and spark plug. They are easy. The TB decarb is simply a "throttle body service" its a little thing they plumb into your intake tube and it sprays a chemical into the TB while the car is running to clean it. It works to a slight extent but its simply a money maker for the techs. You could just pull the intake tube off, hold the TB open with your hand and reach in there with a rag soaked in carb cleaner and clean out the TB opening
