Default clutch slipping?

I have a 99 gt convertible with 37k miles I bought it this summer from the original owner. I know it wasnt driven too hard because it still had the original tires on it. and the guy who owned it was like 60. Anyway the only mods I have right now are an o/r x pipe and flomasters. When driving normal the clucth seems fine but If I do a burnout as soon as I go to grab 2nd it just slips into gear. Ive tried this five or six times now and it will not grab 2nd. Could the clucth be worn already with only 37k miles on it? Would the lokar clutch cable adjuster help me any?

So when you grab 2nd the tires dont spin but the motor revs? Sounds like a bad clutch disk or PP to me. My clutch is on its way out.. It grabs fine most of the time on street tires, but put the drag radials on it and it revs to the moon with the car doing nothing. I'd swap the clutch with a King Cobra, and keep the stock cable dont buy an adjustable ( they are just a headache)

There are many different ways to test if your clutch is shot. Do a search for slipping clutch on google and you'll see what I mean. The most common way is to put your parking brake on and start the car. Now put it in 5th gear and try to drive the car. If the car stalls your clutch is good. If the car stays running with the clutch all the way out your clutch is shot. Another way to test that is less harsh is drive about 25 mph and put the car in 5th. Mash on the gas and if the car revs but doesn't actually accelerate you have a slipping clutch.

In most cases this works, but my car has something wrong with the clutch and it grabs fine on the street, but toss a DR on it and try to get on it hard and it goes up in smoke...and the pedal stays on the floor when you push it. If his pedal didnt get stuck in the carpet, or his cable didnt stick, then I'd be willing to bet when the pressure plate gets hot it will slip...

It doesnt seem to slip at all during normal driving. Will doing any of these tests finish off my clucth to the point that I cant drive it? If so I'll just wait till spring and buy a clucth.

Your clutch going out could be a good thing. If you are going to mod your car you most defiently need to upgrade your clutch. I learned the hard way last weekend, so I am in the proces of installing a spec stage II clutch in my car.

Obviously the first test I mentioned is more harsh. But try putting the car in 5th going 25mph and getting on it. If it just revs, your clutch is slipping.
